Max Verstappen will face a penalty at the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix as he has exceeded his allotted engine usage. As a result, he will be demoted 10 places on the grid regardless of his qualifying position. This penalty was expected as Verstappen encountered engine issues during the Canadian Grand Prix in June. To avoid further penalties in the future, Red Bull introduced a fourth engine into Verstappen’s pool in Spain. The team strategically chose the Spa-Francorchamps track for this penalty as it is known to provide more overtaking opportunities.

In previous races, Verstappen has shown his ability to overcome grid penalties and achieve impressive results. Last year, he started from 14th on the grid and managed to win the Belgian Grand Prix. However, this time around, he faces a tougher challenge as McLaren has demonstrated strong performance at the Hungaroring. They have the potential to secure a 1-2 finish based on their merit.

Verstappen’s penalty is a result of Red Bull moving him onto a fifth Internal Combustion Engine. This decision will force him to drop 10 positions on the starting grid. On the other hand, Yuki Tsunoda has opted for a completely new powertrain, which automatically places him at the back of the grid. Verstappen’s penalty could change if other competitors also exceed their engine allocation.

Furthermore, Verstappen is expected to face additional penalties later in the season. He is currently utilizing his last battery, control electronics, electric motor, and turbocharger. These crucial components are nearing the end of their lifespan, and their replacement will result in further grid penalties for Verstappen.
