BMW aposta na condução com tecnologia de realidade aumentada

The digital experience in the car of the future is the dominant theme of the BMW Group’s presence at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where the brand showcases several projects that are in development.

Among the technologies presented by the German brand, augmented reality (AR) glasses stand out, configured to enhance the future driving experience.

Using these special glasses, called “XREAL Air 2”, it is possible to see navigation instructions, danger alerts, entertainment content, information about electric vehicle charging stations, and parking assistance systems, all perfectly integrated into the real world environment.

The expectation of BMW, which has been working on augmented reality since 2008, is that with the popularization of this type of glasses, the new technology will expand and, in this way, provide drivers and passengers with a set of better information and more enjoyable experiences to complement the information already provided by the infotainment systems screens.

“BMW engineers, together with their development partners, have now been able to show stable augmented reality and mixed reality content to passengers in a moving vehicle for the first time. The displayed image remains securely embedded in the environment, even in challenging driving situations, such as curves or passing over speed bumps, or even during acceleration,” explains BMW in a statement.

“Thanks to recent research collaborations with Meta Reality Labs and XREAL, we have made considerable progress in integrating external XR devices into our driving experience in production models. We are proud and prepared to offer our customers breathtaking experiences in the future,” said Peter Lehnert, Vice President of Research, New Technologies, and Digital Car Innovations at the BMW Group.
