Opel Corsa debuts hybrid engines.

To preserve competitiveness in an extremely important segment, the Corsa introduces gasoline hybrid technology, which Opel calls 48V Hybrid, applied to the well-known 1.2 turbo gasoline engine of the new generation, in the 100 hp and 130 hp variants, coupled to a unique electrified dual-clutch gearbox with 6 gears, which incorporates an electric motor (permanent magnet synchronous) that develops a peak power of 21 kW (28 hp) and a torque of 55 Nm.

The electric assistance intervenes in the engine at idle, in the start-stop system, and functions as a starter, also recovering energy during deceleration phases. But in addition to this fuel-saving function, it also assists the combustion engine during low and medium-speed accelerations, providing extra torque to enhance responsiveness and performance (when the driver presses the accelerator fully, the electric motor provides an additional power of 12 hp).

The system also allows the vehicle to be driven in 100% electric mode in scenarios with low torque requirements (up to 30 km/h), or for almost half of the time it circulates in the city.

The brand announces up to 10% fuel savings and CO2 emissions of 126 g/km. Compared to a non-electrified gasoline engine with equivalent characteristics, the 48V Hybrid block offers an average fuel savings of about 1 liter per 100 km in mixed cycle. According to Opel, this savings is mainly achieved in urban environments.

There is still no date or prices for the start of sales in Portugal.
