Tsunoda believes there are additional elements at play in Red Bull F1 talks.

Yuki Tsunoda believes that he deserves a promotion to the Red Bull team. According to Tsunoda, there are other factors that Red Bull takes into account when deciding who will replace Sergio Perez in the Formula 1 team. Perez’s recent poor performance has led to speculation that he may be replaced before the end of the season. Despite outscoring his more experienced teammate Daniel Ricciardo, Tsunoda is not seen as a top candidate for the position. Ricciardo has been mentioned as the leading alternative to Perez, and Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson has also tested the RB20 car. However, Tsunoda believes that his improved performances throughout the season should make him a contender to partner Max Verstappen. He remains focused on his own on-track performances and is unsure if Red Bull is considering him as an option. Tsunoda acknowledges that conversations may be happening behind the scenes, but he is satisfied with what he has accomplished so far and will continue to focus on his own performance in the upcoming race.

Tsunoda has disclosed that he has not engaged in discussions with Red Bull chief Christian Horner or advisor Helmut Marko in recent weeks regarding his chances of joining Red Bull. However, he expressed that regardless of the outcome, a resolution to the situation would offer a much-needed break from the constant rumors that circulate every weekend.

“I am uncertain about the conversations had by other drivers. It appears that other drivers have also not had such discussions. I cannot speak for the driver who is currently not racing, but it is my hope that a decision is made promptly. While I would certainly like to secure the seat, it is disheartening to have rumors swirling around, accompanied by additional pressure, when I have not even had any conversations or any insight into the matter. But that is how things go. I can only hope.”

Tsunoda has indicated that if he is overlooked on this occasion, it would signify that he has reached the peak of his career prospects within the Red Bull program. When asked if he would feel that he has reached his limit with Red Bull, Tsunoda replied, “As a driver, there have been a few races where I could have performed better. For example, in Montreal, I was in a points-scoring position, but I lost those points. However, if you compare my appearances in Q3, my qualifying results, and my race results to others, it becomes evident. So, in my opinion, yes, it is quite clear. But apart from that, I do not know.”

The Japanese driver believes that external factors would have been taken into consideration if another driver is chosen over him to replace Perez. “It seems that other factors are being considered as well,” he explained. “Based on rumors, of course. However, if you solely focus on performance, it is clear, as I mentioned before. It is evident that I am performing well, even among the top midfield drivers. So, yes.”
