One of the key figures behind Mercedes’ success in Formula 1 is the executive director and team principal Toto Wolff – who will continue in the structure in the long term, after signing a three-year extension until 2026.

He confirmed it himself in an interview with The Telegraph: ‘I think the most important thing among the three of us [including INEOS chairman Jim Ratcliffe and Mercedes chairman Ola Källenius] is that we have trust in each other. Ultimately, as a shareholder, I want the best return on investment. And the best return on investment is winning. I’m not going to hold onto a position that I think someone else can do better than me. I make sure I have people around me who can tell me otherwise. Ultimately, the three of us decide: ‘Let’s go again’.’

Regarding his responsibilities at Mercedes, Wolff explained: ‘I am part of this team in various roles. Not just a co-shareholder. I am in management. These are things that will not change, regardless of the position I hold, whether executive or non-executive. But I feel good. The risk for me is always more about boredom than exhaustion. That’s why I embrace the challenges we have today, even though they sometimes seem very, very difficult to manage.’
