The Spanish Grand Prix has been held for many years at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – which debuted in 1991 – but there are increasing rumors that it may change location as early as 2026 or 2027, moving to a city circuit in Madrid. It is speculated that the announcement will be made on January 23, next week.

According to the newspaper Marca, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, assured in her end-of-year speech that there would be a communication regarding Formula 1 on that day – something confirmed by the mayor, José Luis Martínez Almeida.

On the table, there may be an initial agreement for ten seasons, with an expected impact of 400 million euros per year – that is, about 4 billion euros in total. As Barcelona has a contract until 2026, if this GP replaces the current one in Spain, there will have to be a waiver agreement. Alternatively, the debut may only happen in 2027.

The circuit would be a city circuit, in the Ifema area – where the presentation on January 23 is expected to take place. This venue would host the main straight and the pit building. The last time Formula 1 was in Madrid was in 1981, at the Jarama circuit.
