The march of electrification is irreversible in Europe, but there is new hope against the ban on the sale of combustion engine vehicles starting in 2035.
A leaked document, in the midst of the countdown to the next European Parliament elections scheduled for June, reveals a new proposal from the European People’s Party (EPP) to delay the implementation of new anti-pollution regulations.
The now-revealed document reveals the position of the largest party represented in the European Parliament, namely rejecting “prohibition policies – such as the prohibition of the sale of combustion engines – and we will review it as soon as possible.”
Recall that the so-called “Green Deal,” the European Green Deal, already allows exceptions to the ban on the sale of combustion engines, as long as they are powered by sustainably sourced synthetic fuels. However, this new proposal aims to be more comprehensive by not only benefiting brands with the ability to make high investments for adaptation to e-fuels.
