Toyota announced that its subsidiary Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) committed irregularities in the power measurements of three diesel engines manufactured by the company and installed in 10 of the vehicle models sold worldwide.
According to the Japanese brand, despite a new verification confirming that the vehicles “comply with legal standards,” Toyota has decided to temporarily suspend the exports of the engines and the models equipped with the same components, the Japanese company revealed in a statement.
The models in question are the Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 300, Hilux, Fortuner, and Hiace van. “There is no need to stop using the engines or vehicles”, declared the company, apologizing for the “inconvenience and concerns caused.”
The manufacturer explained that the irregularities consisted of TICO measuring power performance using a different computer program during certification tests than the one used in mass production, showing results with less variation.
It is worth noting that the Toyota group has been involved in a series of irregularities related to vehicle quality control. Recently, a subsidiary of Daihatsu suspended worldwide exports after it was discovered that safety tests and emissions of the majority of models were manipulated.
