BYD continues to strengthen its global strategy and now presents new plug-in hybrid models in Australia, at a time when the automotive industry is entering a new phase of technological competition focused on fast charging and energy efficiency.

New investment beyond pure electric vehicles

Although it is a world leader in electric vehicles, BYD maintains a strong commitment to electrified models, particularly plug-in hybrids, as a way to respond to different market needs.

The brand announced the launch of the new Seal 6 Sedan and the Seal 6 Touring, two models that combine an internal combustion engine with electric technology.

Range of up to 1,400 km

Both models utilize the DM 5.0 Super Hybrid system, which integrates:

  • 1.5 gasoline engine with Atkinson cycle and 46% thermal efficiency
  • electric motor
  • Blade LFP battery

The announced combined range is one of the main highlights:

  • Seal 6 Sedan: up to 1,400 km
  • Seal 6 Touring: up to 1,300 km

In 100% electric mode:

  • Sedan: 55 km (10.8 kWh battery)
  • Touring: 100 km (19 kWh battery)

Competitive price for families

BYD positions the new models as affordable alternatives for families, especially in the context of rising living costs and fuel prices.

Prices in Australia start at:

  • AUD 34,990 for the Sedan
  • AUD 39,990 for the Touring

(Prices exclude additional legalization and circulation costs)

Space and technology on board

The Seal 6 Touring offers between 670 and 1,535 liters of cargo capacity, while the Sedan focuses on an aerodynamic design with a Cd coefficient of 0.255.

Inside, both include:

  • 8.8-inch digital panel
  • 12.8-inch central screen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • DiPilot level 2 driving assistance system

Strategy Adapted to the Economic Context

The brand emphasizes that these models were designed to reduce customers’ usage costs in a scenario marked by high fuel prices.

Orders Open in April

The new BYD Seal 6 will be available for order starting April 9, 2026.

Hybrids Gain Strength in the “Technological War”

With this investment, BYD demonstrates that competition is not limited to pure electric vehicles, but also extends to advanced hybrids, offering solutions that combine range, efficiency, and competitive pricing.
