The CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds, expressed his interest in returning to China when he took on his role last year. This goal has been achieved with the upcoming race in Shanghai, although the use of the Shanghai International Circuit is seen as a temporary solution. Formula E is exploring possibilities for future races in downtown Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and on Hainan Island. Dodds acknowledges that the Shanghai F1 track is not the best option for Formula E and he would prefer a race in the central Bund district of Shanghai. However, the upcoming race will provide valuable insights into the reception and potential for future events in the city.
Formula E is also planning a triple-header of Asian events from May to June, with the second stage of the Tokyo E-Prix expected to take place in mid-May and a return to China in mid or late June. There are also discussions about adding a race in Chiang Mai, Thailand, although it may not be feasible for 2025. Finding a substitute location for Misano, Italy, is a priority for Formula E, with cities like Bologna, Modena, and Turin being considered as potential alternatives. Monaco is expected to retain its place on the calendar in early May, and a double-header in Berlin has already been confirmed for mid-April. Formula E is also looking for a permanent venue in the UK beyond the current ExCeL Arena location, with options such as the Olympic Park in Stratford or the use of stadiums in London being explored.
