Ford Motor Company’s sales figures for the past six months do not provide a breakdown between fastbacks and convertibles or different transmission types. However, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger managed to sell 5,306 and 21,217 units, respectively, before being discontinued in December 2023.
While the Challenger continues under a different name for the 2024 model year, the new Charger stands out as a distinct vehicle. It features a platform developed by Stellantis and is available in fully electric (Charger Daytona) or inline-six (Charger SIXPACK) variants, with three or five doors. The Hurricane twin-turbo I6 engine delivers an impressive 550 horsepower and 521 pound-feet (706 Nm) of torque, similar to the Ram 1500 RHO.
General Motors has indicated that the Camaro nameplate will make a return in the future, as stated in a press release from a year ago. Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, assured enthusiasts that this is not the end of the Camaro’s story. Speculation suggests that the next Camaro could be an electric sedan or an electric SUV.
Audi’s R8, a rear-wheel-drive coupe, sold 266 units in the past six months, including both coupes and spyders. BMW combines the sales of the 2 Series Gran Coupe and 2 Series Coupe, resulting in a total of 6,436 vehicles sold.
The 4 Series and 8 Series from BMW achieved sales figures of 19,935 and 2,875 units, respectively. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz AG and Porsche have not released their sales reports for Q2 2024 and H1 2024 at the time of writing. Moving on, the mid-engined Corvette Coupe and Convertible, with their targa tops and retractable hardtops, sold a combined total of 17,914 units.
Mazda’s MX-5 Miata RF sold 2,258 units, while the soft-topped version sold 1,746 units. Nissan’s Infiniti Q60 had 48 deliveries, and the Z and GT-R models achieved sales figures of 1,457 and 151 units, respectively. Surprisingly, Dodge managed to sell a Viper in Q1 2024, even though production of the Viper ceased in 2017.
Subaru sold 1,414 units of the BRZ, while the mechanically similar GR86, manufactured by Subaru, reached 7,467 units. The BMW Z4-based Toyota GR Supra achieved only 1,495 sales year to date, and the Lexus RC sold 941 units. Finally, the Lexus LC had a total of 966 deliveries in the past two quarters, with 8 of them featuring the hybrid V6 powertrain instead of the standard V8 engine.
