Norris: Verstappen doesn’t have to say sorry for ‘disgraceful’ Austria F1 event

Lando Norris of McLaren has changed his stance on the clash he had with Max Verstappen during the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. Initially, Norris was furious and demanded an apology from Verstappen. However, he has now cooled off and stated that he doesn’t believe an apology is necessary. The incident occurred during the race when Norris and Verstappen collided on Lap 64. Verstappen received a 10-second penalty, but still managed to finish fifth, while Norris had to retire. Norris admitted that his post-race comments were fueled by frustration and emotions, and he now realizes that the incident was not as significant as he initially thought. He no longer expects an apology from Verstappen and considers it to be good racing. Both drivers have discussed the incident and are ready to move on and continue racing.

Norris disclosed that he and Verstappen had conversations on Monday and Wednesday following the Formula 1 Austrian GP to resolve any misunderstandings, and going forward, things will proceed as usual between them.

The initial uproar after the incident was that drivers had to adapt their racing strategies when competing against Verstappen compared to other rivals.

However, Norris, upon reflection, expressed that he “enjoyed” the intense competition with Verstappen at the Red Bull Ring.

“It is evident how he approaches racing,” Norris remarked.

“It is challenging, pushing the limits. And yes, it is what we admire, it is what I admire.

“I genuinely relished the entire battle I had with him. Of course, it was unfortunate how things concluded.”

The upcoming Formula 1 British Grand Prix this weekend sets the stage for another showdown between Norris and Verstappen, and the McLaren driver anticipates a fierce competition at Silverstone.

“We have been neck and neck in the recent races, but Mercedes has been closing the gap,” Norris stated.

“If we reflect on the previous weekend, Mercedes displayed exceptional speed, arguably one of the fastest cars in the race.

“So they have made significant progress since their previous position. We are in a favorable position, but so is Red Bull. Therefore, I anticipate a closely contested battle among many of us.”
