Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes will have improved speed at Silverstone

The British driver is excited for his home race with a faster car than in 2023. Lewis Hamilton is confident that his Mercedes will be more competitive at Silverstone this season compared to the previous year. The team has made gradual improvements to their car, allowing them to contend on the Formula 1 grid. Despite a disappointing 2023 season, Mercedes managed to finish third and fifth at the British Grand Prix last year. However, Hamilton believes that the recent upgrades will result in a much more positive weekend at Silverstone this time around.

“It’s difficult to say. I believe the car will definitely perform better this year due to the changes we’ve made. It possesses improved characteristics throughout the range,” Hamilton shared with the press, including Total-Motorsport.com. “I can’t recall where we stood last year, but I don’t think we were competitive. I’m confident that we will be more competitive this time and hopefully closer to the front.”

At the Canadian GP, George Russell greatly benefited from Mercedes’ new upgrades. The British driver secured pole position and finished the race in third place, while Hamilton finished in fourth. Russell also capitalized on a collision between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in Austria, ultimately winning the race at the Red Bull Ring.

During the early July race at Silverstone, the majority of fans will eagerly watch Hamilton, Norris, and Russell in action. Fortunately, Silverstone will remain on the F1 calendar for the foreseeable future, as the circuit recently signed a new 10-year deal with F1 in February. When asked about his expectations for the event, Hamilton expressed his appreciation for the organizers’ efforts but also raised concerns about ticket prices.

“I must say, they already put on an incredible event. From a bird’s eye view, the entire event is amazing, and every inch of space is utilized. Many fans come and enjoy a fantastic weekend,” Hamilton remarked. “However, I do believe we need to keep an eye on ticket prices. They continue to rise, and considering the cost of living nowadays, it’s becoming too expensive. I’m speaking from the perspective of a fan who may attend with their family.”
