SOFTWARE UPDATE BOOSTS TESLA CYBERTRUCK’S CHARGING PERFORMANCE

The highly anticipated Cybertruck has left many feeling underwhelmed with its range and charging capabilities. Despite promises of a 500-mile range, the tri-motor Cyberbeast falls short at just 320 miles. This has made road-tripping in the Cybertruck a cumbersome experience, as owners find themselves spending excessive amounts of time at charging stations. Tesla’s lack of 800-volt chargers was initially blamed for the issue, but it turns out that higher voltage charging does not reduce the charging time.

In April, Tesla acknowledged the lackluster charging performance and announced plans for an over-the-air software update to address the issue. The update, which was promised to unlock up to 154 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging, was eagerly awaited by Cybertruck owners. However, the release date remained uncertain, with Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill simply stating that it would be “coming soon.”

After weeks of anticipation, the promised fix has finally arrived in the form of software update 2024.20.7. The release notes mention “various changes to improve your vehicle’s DC fast charging performance.” While this is great news for Cybertruck owners, there is disappointment among Tesla Model Y owners with 4680 cells, as it is unclear if they will also benefit from these improvements.

Early reports from owners who have tested the update are positive. With preconditioning and starting at a 10% state of charge, one owner was able to add 147 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging, aligning closely with Tesla’s estimates. However, it should be noted that this is not the maximum potential of the Cybertruck, as further testing by Kyle Conner from Out of Spec Studios has revealed.

Overall, the software update brings some much-needed improvements to the Cybertruck’s charging performance. While it may not fully address all the concerns raised by owners, it is a step in the right direction. With Tesla’s commitment to continuous improvement, it is likely that future updates will further enhance the Cybertruck’s capabilities.

TESLA’S CYBERTRUCK CHARGING WOES: IS AN 800-VOLT UPDATE COMING?

In a shocking turn of events, Kyle Conner, a renowned EV enthusiast, recently discovered a major limitation with Tesla’s Cybertruck charging capabilities. Despite using various 800-volt chargers that boasted impressive power outputs of over 325 kW, Conner was dismayed to find that the Cybertruck’s screen displayed a warning indicating that the charge rate was being restricted by the charger’s capabilities.

This revelation has raised eyebrows among Tesla enthusiasts and industry experts alike. With the Cybertruck’s charging speed being hindered by the lack of high voltage and power support at Supercharger stations, it seems that Tesla may be facing a significant setback. However, rumors are swirling that the electric vehicle manufacturer is on the verge of unveiling a solution.

Speculation is rife that Tesla is preparing to introduce 800-volt capability to its V4 chargers, a move that would undoubtedly alleviate the charging woes faced by Cybertruck owners. If this update materializes, it would mark a significant milestone for Tesla and could potentially restore the company’s tarnished reputation in the charging department.

While Tesla enthusiasts eagerly await further updates, it appears that a video demonstrating the updated Cybertruck charge curve will not be released immediately. According to Conner, there are simply too many variables and inconsistent results to accurately gauge the expected behavior of the Cybertruck’s charging capabilities. Nevertheless, Conner did note some improvements, leaving the exact extent of these enhancements to be quantified in the near future.

As the EV community eagerly anticipates Tesla’s next move, it remains to be seen whether the company will rise to the occasion and address the Cybertruck’s charging limitations. Stay tuned for further developments on this electrifying story.
