Leclerc and Sainz were seen talking in the closed park area after the race. Charles Leclerc reassured that he has no concerns regarding his partnership with Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, following their collision at the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix. Leclerc was furious when Sainz overtook him at turn 1 on the third lap of the race in Barcelona, going against what he believed was a pre-race agreement. Sainz closed Leclerc on the inside and caused minor damage to his front wing, which Leclerc claimed prevented him from overtaking Mercedes’ George Russell and securing fourth place. However, Sainz seemed to ignore Leclerc’s claim of a prior agreement, suggesting that the Monegasque driver was complaining excessively. Leclerc revealed that he and Sainz were on the same flight back home and discussed the incident to ensure that any tensions did not carry over to the next race. When asked if he was worried about the impact of the recent collision on his relationship with Sainz, Leclerc responded: “Not at all. Just because we were on the same plane on Sunday night and had the chance to see each other, and yes, everything is fine. We had a conversation, as we always do, and I think the problem always seems bigger from the outside. But between us, we have known each other for so many years that we understand tensions arise after the race. We are both involved in the heat of the moment, disappointed with each other, but then we talk and everything is fine. So, I have absolutely no… Yes, I am not worried about our future relationship. And yes, it was just an incident and a race where things were a bit more tense, which has happened in the past and can happen again. But every time we manage to resolve it by talking to each other, and then everything is fine moving forward. And it’s exactly the same now, so I’m not worried at all.” Leclerc suggested that Sainz’s attempt to overtake him in the early stages of the race was motivated by the Spaniard’s desire to make a “dazzling” move while his future with the team is uncertain. However, despite Sainz’s imminent departure from Ferrari to make way for Lewis Hamilton in 2025, Leclerc insisted that their working relationship has not changed. When asked if there has been a shift in dynamics within the team since Sainz was informed of his exit, Leclerc replied: “No, we have been working very well together. In the past, we have also had moments like this, where things get complicated between teammates, especially when we are so close to each other on track. However, we have always handled these situations well by discussing them face to face. So, I have no concerns about our future and have not noticed any changes since then. In the end, we are professionals and understand that it is beneficial for both of us to maintain a good relationship within the team and on the track. Sometimes, I may push the limits a bit, and sometimes Carlos may do the same, but it all comes down to communication and starting over. I have confidence that this will continue to be the case in the future.”
