The latest RB update package did not bring the expected improvements during the race in Barcelona last weekend. RB CEO Peter Bayer revealed that the team is considering splitting the car specifications for the next Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austria in order to better understand the effects of their latest updates. The Faenza team introduced a significant update package in Barcelona, which included a new engine cover, a modified floor, and a revised rear wing. However, these developments caused an unexpected drop in performance, resulting in the elimination of both drivers in Q1 and the inability to compete for points in the race. RB’s lead driver Daniel Ricciardo, who finished in 15th place, expressed his confusion with the lackluster pace and assured that the VCARB 01 was not the cause of the problem. Bayer revealed that the updates worked as intended at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, but complications may have arisen in the team’s chosen setup. He explained that the data clearly showed the effectiveness of the updates, but the race engineers suggested that the team may have been misled. The team may have believed they had found the ideal car setup, but it turned out to be different from what the car indicated. Bayer compared the situation to being next to Austria’s tallest mountain, the Glockner, while mistakenly thinking they were on top of it. RB is now under pressure to understand the issues they faced, especially with four races scheduled within a five-week period. Bayer admitted that they are considering reverting a car to previous specifications. However, due to the limited practice time in this weekend’s round at the Red Bull Ring, which is part of the Sprint format, a quick decision must be made. Bayer emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that they need to determine their course of action during the first practice session. The team is working tirelessly to resolve the problems and prepare for the upcoming race weekend.
