Sargeant expresses concerns about the lack of downforce of the new Williams F1 floor.

Sargeant expressa preocupações sobre falta de downforce do novo piso da Williams F1

The performance of Sargeant in the Spanish Grand Prix was negatively affected by a floor that is not functioning as expected. Logan Sargeant, Williams’ driver, revealed that the floor of his car is not generating the adequate amount of downforce, which has contributed to the team’s difficulties in the race. Sargeant expected to use the same FW45 specification as his teammate Alex Albon for the first time this season, but the team faced difficulties throughout the weekend. Both drivers had a poor performance in qualifying, with Sargeant finishing over three tenths behind Albon. Sargeant explained that the underperforming floor contributed to the large difference between him and his teammate. Despite making some adjustments to improve the situation, Sargeant acknowledged that the car’s pace has been lacking throughout the weekend. Even if the floor was functioning optimally, Sargeant believes he still wouldn’t be able to match Albon’s performance, but the difference would be much smaller.

Sargeant revealed that the latest version of his car has lost some extra weight, but he admitted that the benefits were diminished due to a problem with the floor. He explained that although the weight reduction was positive, the lack of proper downforce nullified the gains. He acknowledged that even with the improvements, he would not be able to surpass his opponent, but it would be good to have a fair chance. Sargeant shared that he should have received the lighter floor in the previous race, in Canada, but unresolved issues caused a delay. Despite the upgrade, he did not anticipate a significant improvement in competitiveness, as weight reduction was the only advantage. He emphasized that the floor was not functioning correctly and understanding and resolving the problem was the first step. Sargeant expressed disappointment that the expected improvements did not materialize, but recognized that it was only a matter of weight and the floor should still function the same way. Although he felt a slight improvement compared to the beginning of the weekend, he admitted that something was still missing.
