Stroll was lucky to avoid a potential penalty in Barcelona.
Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll escaped punishment for incidents during practice for the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, where both drivers appeared to collide with their competitors.
The first incident occurred about a third of the way into the session when Lewis Hamilton, who was moving slowly, blocked Stroll at Turn 5. Hamilton tried to give Stroll a clear path by moving to the side, but Stroll ended up going deep and making contact with his Mercedes rival.
Later, towards the end of the session, Leclerc was furious when he felt that Lando Norris obstructed him at Turn 5 and then veered left in his McLaren. Norris radioed his engineer, saying “I think I’ve suffered damage,” while an irritated Leclerc called Norris a derogatory term as he continued to hinder Max Verstappen.
The stewards were called to investigate under Article 33.4 of the F1 Sporting Regulations, which prohibits driving in a potentially dangerous manner. However, they determined that Stroll’s driving was “unstable but not dangerous,” despite Stroll admitting that he wanted to show his dissatisfaction to the other driver.
Leclerc also received a reprimand as the stewards acknowledged that while he was trying to get out of the racing line, he misjudged the position of his car and made slight contact.
