Martin Truex Jr. diz que ficar sem combustível em Sonoma foi o ponto de virada para sua decisão de se aposentar.

Martin Truex Jr. announces his retirement from full-time racing at the end of the 2024 season during an event in Iowa. The veteran driver, who is part of Joe Gibbs Racing, revealed his decision to the NASCAR community last week. Despite stepping away from full-time racing, Truex Jr. will still participate in selected events in the Cup and Xfinity series. This change marks a significant shift in his career as he looks towards the future and explores new opportunities.

Truex Jr.’s decision to retire may have come earlier than expected by many. After careful consideration, he realized it was the right time to take the next step in his professional journey. In a recent episode of the Stacking Pennies podcast, the Spire Motorsports driver shared the reasons behind his quick announcement. It seems that an incident in Sonoma, where he ran out of fuel, played a role in accelerating his decision-making process. By announcing his retirement in advance, Truex Jr. allows Joe Gibbs Racing enough time to find a suitable replacement during the ongoing negotiation season.

Martin Truex Jr.’s retirement has also caught the attention of NASCAR officials. The Senior Vice President of Competition acknowledged Truex Jr.’s status as a first-ballot Hall of Famer and a true ambassador of the sport. The absence of the veteran driver in the 2025 season will certainly be felt by both NASCAR and his passionate fan base. However, fans can still expect Truex Jr.’s occasional participation in part-time starts, starting from the 2025 season. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 2017 Cup champion, but his impact on the sport is undeniable.
