Mitsubishi has just strengthened its presence in the B-SUV segment with the revamped ASX, a model that incorporates a strong brand identity and marks an important qualitative leap in terms of digitalization, electrification, and safety.
The design of the revamped ASX fully incorporates the iconic “Dynamic Shield” of Mitsubishi, which reinforces its SUV characteristics and gives it a confident, robust, and dynamic appearance.
The new ASX offers a welcome and farewell sequence, when the driver approaches with a hands-free card or unlocks the doors, a welcome animation is displayed through the lighting system.
The front now features a more horizontal face, combined with LED lighting, a hood with well-defined lines and low-slung air intakes. This design extends to the side sections, combining a fluid silhouette with wide and high shoulders, along with a color change between the body and the wheel arch-side skirt assembly, to provide a more sporty stance.
The side profile combines a fluid silhouette with wide and raised shoulders, which contributes to a confident stance, reinforced by the 17″ or 18″ wheels, the latter with a new custom design.
In the rear, the renovated ASX features LED technology in the “C” shaped taillights and a tailgate with the ASX designation and the carved letters that make up the word “Mitsubishi.”
The interior is where the new features of the renovated Mitsubishi ASX are found, with increased digitization and connectivity. To achieve this, the three-diamond brand has incorporated various Google functionalities into the SUV, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and others that can be installed through Google Play.
The integration of a complete set of connected services is reinforced by the introduction of the My Mitsubishi Motors mobile application, which provides relevant information and remote services in an easy-to-use mobile application, available on the App Store and Google Play, and supports the driver wherever they are. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available, as well as remote software updates (over the air).
Furthermore, the renewed ASX continues to make use of the Multi-Sense system, exactly the same one used by Renault in its models, which allows the driver to adjust the steering response, chassis dynamic control, and power delivery speed to their current preferences through the various proposed driving modes. Behind the wheel, it is possible to find three types of 7″ digital instrument panels and another, also digital, of 10″.
Also worth noting is the infotainment system that continues to use the 10.4″ central screen, which allows for smartphone replication to access map information or many other applications.
In terms of engines, the Mitsubishi ASX continues to offer the entry-level 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine (1.0 MPI-T), equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and offering 90hp of power and 160 Nm of torque. Next is the 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine, with direct gasoline injection, turbocharger, and mild-hybrid technology, with a belt-driven starter generator and a 12V lithium-ion battery. This allows for energy recovery during deceleration and braking, as well as assistance during starts and accelerations by providing additional torque. When combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, this engine delivers 140hp and 260 Nm (a configuration that the national importer of Mitsubishi has chosen not to sell in Portugal); offering 160hp and 270 Nm when paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch DCT gearbox. The ASX also offers a full hybrid version for those seeking even lower fuel consumption and emissions, with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors (one as a generator), a multimode gearbox, combined power of 145hp, and a range of 900 km.The wide range of engines available for the new ASX will be later complemented with a GPL3 unit for markets that have this alternative fuel. The three-cylinder turbocharged engine provides 100 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque.
The refreshed ASX is also available with a wide list of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), with all versions featuring as standard Front Collision Mitigation System with Pedestrian Protection, Automatic High Beam Lights, Cruise Control with Speed Limiter, Driver Attention Monitoring, Intelligent Speed Assistant, Distance Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance and Emergency Lane Keeping Assistance, Parking Sensors and Rearview Camera.
Mitsubishi has already announced that the refreshed ASX will be produced in Spain and its market launch is scheduled for next month, July.
