The managing director of Silverstone, a renowned racing circuit in the UK, spoke about the difficulties they are facing in selling tickets for the upcoming British Grand Prix. This struggle can be attributed to the growing dominance of Red Bull in Formula 1. Silverstone traditionally has been the home race for Mercedes drivers, but the recent trend has shifted in favor of Red Bull and their star driver, Max Verstappen.

Mercedes had a period of dominance in the 2010s, with Lewis Hamilton leading the charge and winning six world championships. They were particularly successful at Silverstone, winning eight times and setting a record. However, since the regulation changes in 2022, Mercedes has not performed as well. This has allowed Red Bull to take control of the F1 championship, winning three times in the past three years.

Stuart Pringle, the head of Silverstone, acknowledges that there was a time when Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes always performed well. However, the situation has now changed, and selling tickets for the British Grand Prix has become a challenge. This is mainly due to the domination of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, who emerged victorious at Silverstone last year. Pringle highlights that it is more difficult to sell tickets as a British promoter when a British driver is not dominating F1 as before.

Max Verstappen is currently leading the drivers’ championship with six victories and is aiming for his fourth consecutive title. On the other hand, Mercedes has been unable to keep up with Red Bull’s performance, despite occasionally being faster. Currently, they occupy fourth place in the championship standings, with only one podium.

The technical director of Mercedes, James Allison, has expressed confidence in a young F2 Prema Racing driver named Andrea Kimi Antonelli. There are rumors that Antonelli could join Mercedes for the next season, taking Hamilton’s place, who is leaving the team at the end of this year.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has shown promise as a Prema Racing driver, catching the attention of Mercedes officials as a possible addition to the team. As a result, Mercedes would have requested a change in FIA regulations regarding the minimum age for F1 drivers. This change would allow Antonelli, who is currently under 18 years old, to compete in Formula 1.

James Allison believes that a rookie driver making his debut in Formula 1 must possess the temperament and skills necessary to thrive in the competitive world of racing. Mercedes is now waiting to evaluate and understand Kimi Antonelli’s qualities before making a decision about his inclusion in the team for the next season.
