Some people argue that the Formula 1 calendar, composed of 24 races, is excessive, resulting in saturation for fans. However, Domenicali expressed to Auto Motor und Sport that it is incorrect to claim that 24 races are “too many”. If the sport continues to do well, fans will eagerly await each upcoming race.
Despite immense pressure on teams and drivers, the Head of F1 admitted that 24 Grand Prix races is a satisfactory number. He believes that everyone involved in the sport should be pleased with this situation. Additionally, a higher number of races brings benefits such as increased attention for teams and sponsors, resulting in higher income.
Domenicali also mentioned that due to high demand from locations, especially in Asia, to host a Grand Prix weekend, his team is considering rotating certain races to accommodate the enthusiastic interest of promoters in the region.
In terms of track owners and promoters, Domenicali revealed that there is a desire for more F1 Sprint Race weekends from the hosts. Data indicates a demand for this change. Currently, six sprint races are held per season, but this number could increase to eight in the future.
The ongoing season is the longest in the history of the sport, with 24 stages comprising the 2024 F1 World Championship. Similarly, the 2025 season will also consist of 24 races. However, to meet demand, additional races could be added beyond the end of the next season. Regardless of the outcome, it is likely that more Sprint Race weekends will be considered.
