Stella revela momento crucial que acelerou progresso de Piastri na F1.

Oscar Piastri, a driver from Australia, is part of the McLaren team. On June 7, 2024, during the Formula 1 World Championship at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Canada, Piastri took part in the Training Day.

Andrea Stella, McLaren team principal, shared how the Chinese Grand Prix weekend in Formula 1 marked a significant turning point for Oscar Piastri’s progress. Piastri faced difficulties during his first visit to the Shanghai International Circuit, as tire degradation issues left him 42 seconds behind Lando Norris. However, Piastri bounced back and showcased his skills by outperforming his teammate in qualifying in Imola, securing second place. He achieved the same result in Monaco. Although a grid penalty affected his performance in Italy, Piastri managed to secure his first podium of the season in Monte Carlo.

Piastri expressed his satisfaction with his recent performances, stating, “The past three weekends have been very impressive for the whole team and for me personally.” He added, “Monaco was the first time we achieved a truly exceptional result. The car is performing exceptionally well, and I believe I have made significant progress and consistency in the past few weekends, which is always rewarding. Overall, I feel confident and satisfied with my current position.”

When asked about the reasons behind his improved results, Piastri credited McLaren’s increased competitiveness due to improvements. He emphasized that it was not a single factor, but rather a combination of factors that contributed to his growth. Piastri stated: “I believe it’s more about confidence. There were positive moments even at the beginning of the season. Although there were some challenging races in the middle, I feel like I made significant improvements in various aspects compared to last year. The missing piece was consistency, and the last few weekends were crucial in addressing that. However, I don’t think I did anything extraordinary, and as a team, we didn’t do anything extraordinary either. We just found the right setup for the car, and with the improvements, it is performing exceptionally well. So, I believe we are all raising our performance.”

However, Stella revealed that Piastri benefited from an extensive analysis session with his engineering team after the race in China, which helped him address the areas where he was facing difficulties. When asked if he agreed with Piastri’s assessment that he had made significant progress in recent weeks, Stella responded affirmatively, stating that they had indeed made improvements. Stella further explained that after the race in China, they reviewed the lessons learned during the first part of the season in collaboration with Piastri’s engineers and identified some areas for improvement. He expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that they observed a noticeable acceleration in Piastri’s development, both in terms of speed during qualifying and racing skills. Stella also credited Piastri’s improved performance to returning to tracks that were unfamiliar to him during his debut season, as this allowed for a sense of familiarity and the use of historical data. He emphasized that Piastri’s overall development journey has been impressive, not only due to revisiting the same tracks, but also due to the ongoing collaboration with his engineering team and the accumulation of racing experience.
