With Nico Hulkenberg’s departure to Stake F1 Team Sauber (also known as Audi) in 2025, there is an available seat at Haas. The favorite candidate for the position is 18-year-old Bearman, who is likely to secure the spot through an agreement with Ferrari, the team’s Power Unit supplier.

Although the agreement seems to be on the table, it has not been officially confirmed yet, as stated by Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu: “Bearman will join us again for FP1, this time replacing Nico, so he can pick up where he left off in Imola.”

During a recent interview, Komatsu expressed that Bearman is indeed being considered for the position, as evidenced by his participation in the team’s free practice sessions. Komatsu stated: “Of course, we are considering him; otherwise, we wouldn’t let him participate in the free practice with our car.”

When asked about a deadline to decide on Haas F1’s driver lineup in 2025, Komatsu responded: “I don’t have a specific deadline. I am simply looking for the right driver – someone with extensive experience and the right attitude.”

It could be argued that Bearman lacks experience but has great potential, as demonstrated by his impressive performance in the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. With just a last-minute call to replace Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who was undergoing an appendix operation, Bearman managed a commendable seventh place.

Bearman seized the opportunity remarkably, solidifying his place in Formula 1. His participation in Friday’s FP1 in Barcelona marks another significant step in his journey to the top.

The Haas confirmed in its preview for the Spanish GP that “Official Reserve Driver Oliver Bearman will return to the VF-24 for the second of his planned six participations in FP1 in 2024. The Ferrari Driver Academy member, Bearman, will replace Hulkenberg in the 60-minute session.”

Last year, Bearman had the opportunity to participate in free practice sessions with Haas in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi.
