Christian Horner indicated that a team manager opposed any changes to the F1 2026 regulations. The FIA warned engine manufacturers that the deadline to modify the F1 2026 power units has already passed. The governing body of the sport suggested that it may be too late to make adjustments to the engine and teams should proceed with the current plan, showing support for the FIA. The head of the Red Bull team also supports the FIA’s decision on the 2026 Formula 1 rules. He indirectly hinted that Mercedes is one of the teams resisting the changes. However, the final decision lies with the FIA and there is still room for improvements. Horner explained that the FIA has all the knowledge and data necessary to make informed decisions about the 2026 Formula 1 rules. He emphasized that the most important aspect is to do what is best for the sport and create the best racing experience possible for everyone. The head of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, stated that the window to change the 2026 engine rules has already closed and it is too late to reconsider. Wolff acknowledged that some teams are at a disadvantage for missing the opportunity to make adjustments. However, he also noted that some teams believe they have made significant improvements within the existing rules and debates like these are common when establishing regulations. Wolff admitted that there are still opportunities to improve the chassis and enhance the car’s performance during races. However, he emphasized that the plans and decisions regarding the engine are already well advanced, making it impossible to make significant changes to the set of rules for the F1 2026 at this time. Toto Wolff believes that now is the time for teams to focus on optimizing other aspects of the design and performance of the car within the existing engine specifications. Formula 1 fans are eagerly awaiting exciting races when the new regulations come into effect at the start of the 2026 season.
