Martin Truex Jr. announced his plans to retire from full-time racing at the end of the 2024 season. The veteran driver, who has had a successful career with Joe Gibbs Racing since 2019, will step away from the sport after accumulating 15 Cup race wins and three runner-up championships. However, Truex Jr. does not intend to completely abandon racing as it brings him joy. Instead, he sees this as the right time to start slowing down and exploring new opportunities. He is considering making partial appearances in both the Cup and second-tier series, and JGR, known for being one of the best teams in the sport, could provide him with that opportunity.
Truex Jr.’s retirement announcement has sparked discussions about his possible future involvements in the Cup. Fortunately, he has a long-time teammate and co-owner of 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin, who is willing to offer him a seat. During a conversation in Iowa, Hamlin expressed his support for Truex Jr.’s retirement decision and stated that he would provide him with a car for the Daytona 500 if he asked.
Although Truex Jr. will take on an ambassador role at Joe Gibbs Racing in 2025, he still has the desire to occasionally race in NASCAR. While JGR’s Cup lineup is full, Hamlin assured Truex Jr. that he can have an additional entry through 23XI Racing.
With about 20 races remaining in the 2024 season, Truex Jr. is focused on finishing strong. When asked about his approach to these races, he emphasized that he would not change anything and will continue to strive for victories.
Unfortunately, the 2024 season has been challenging for Truex Jr. so far as he has yet to secure a win. However, he remains hopeful and determined to earn a victory and contend for the championship title in his final year.
