KTM planeja montar equipe poderosa até 2025 para responder a desafio lançado a Binder.

The Tech3 MotoGP team is undergoing a significant transformation. In the past, Tech3 served as a stepping stone for Moto2 graduates, similar to Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri in Formula 1. However, with the arrival of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales, the team’s purpose and expectations are changing. Both riders bring valuable experience from other manufacturers, such as Ducati and Yamaha. This change is happening as Pedro Acosta, one of KTM’s most promising junior riders, joins the factory team. KTM is aiming for the 2025 title with Acosta and recognizes the need for a strong team to compete against Ducati’s formidable lineup. The addition of Bastianini and Vinales provides KTM with the necessary depth and experience for a championship challenge.

KTM’s junior program is known for producing talented riders who will eventually join the MotoGP grid. While there are no standout options among the current Moto2 riders, riders like David Alonso show promise for the future. However, KTM believes it can take a similar approach with Alonso, as it did with Acosta, allowing him time in Moto2 to maximize his chances of success in MotoGP. Meanwhile, KTM had the opportunity to start fresh due to underperforming riders such as Augusto Fernandez and Jack Miller. This allowed the hiring of Bastianini and Vinales, who bring more strength, depth, and experience to the team.

The arrival of Bastianini and Vinales also opens up the possibility of demoting or releasing Brad Binder, who has been a consistent competitor for KTM in recent years. Although Binder has not won a grand prix in nearly three years, he has been a reliable competitor and has outperformed his teammates. However, Acosta’s exceptional performance has overshadowed Binder, raising doubts about his future as the main rider for KTM. Despite currently being in seventh place in the championship, Binder’s performances have been inconsistent, leading to uncertainty about his ability to compete for a title.

KTM’s decision to keep Acosta and part ways with Miller and Fernandez was relatively simple. However, Binder poses a dilemma for the team. His past achievements in MotoGP are impressive, but his performance in 2024 has been weak. It is not clear whether this is due to the bike, the tires, or the pressure of Acosta’s success. KTM cannot afford to have any question marks in their team if they want to challenge Ducati for the title. The arrival of Bastianini and Vinales offers KTM alternatives and the opportunity to reassess Binder’s performance. This could lead to changes in the team as early as mid-2025, aligning with Red Bull’s approach in Formula 1 to constantly evaluate and improve the team.
