Canapino needs to maintain his positive change in attitude.

Canapino precisa manter sua mudança positiva de atitude.

Agustin Canapino returns to the Juncos Hollinger IndyCar team after a brief absence during the Road America stage due to the growing situation of abuse and threats on social media directed at McLaren’s Theo Pourchaire. The team announced that Canapino will be back for the next stage at Laguna Seca and will complete the entire season. However, his return came with a noticeable change in tone.

Pourchaire received threats for a maneuver during the Detroit race which, although clumsy, was not one of the worst of the day. The joint statement from Juncos and McLaren condemning the abuse was supposed to resolve the issue. But Canapino then spoke out against the accusations made against his fan base, stating that he had not seen any death threats. This intervention led Canapino to step away from the car for the Road America stage for the sake of his mental health.

The video of Canapino announcing his return to Laguna took a different approach. He emphasized the importance of being aware of the harm caused by insults and aggression on social media and called for the building of a better community. In an interview, Canapino explained that in Argentina, this type of abuse is often seen as passionate outbursts without harmful intent. However, he acknowledged the need to change his perspective now that he was competing in the United States.

Canapino and the team had a meeting where they discussed cultural differences and made progress in understanding each other’s perspectives. Canapino recognized the need to improve his reaction and understanding of situations in American motorsport and to avoid abuse and hatred on social media.

If Canapino and his fan base are able to follow these changes, they have the opportunity to refocus on Canapino’s impressive performances in the IndyCar. Despite his experience in Argentine stock car racing, Canapino has made a remarkable impression in the competitive international single-seater series. It is important to remember that his driving skills should not be overshadowed by off-track incidents.

Canapino’s change in tone, his efforts to regain control of the situation, and his commitment to completing the season are positive steps. Although an apology for his role in exacerbating the situation would be appreciated, the priority now is to avoid a repeat. Canapino’s story in the IndyCar should be about his achievements on the track.

However, given the nature of the series, Canapino can expect more on-track conflicts and off-track controversies in the future. It will be up to him and his fan base to demonstrate that they have learned from this experience.
