Since its opening in 2006, the 0.875-mile track has not hosted a Cup Series race. Fans have been requesting this for a long time and NASCAR has finally agreed to make it a possibility for the 2024 season.
Countless NASCAR drivers and figures are thrilled to see the track receive a Cup race date. One of them is the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion. The Hendrick Motorsports driver mentioned that he has witnessed fans requesting a Cup race at the track since his time racing there for K&N Pro and Xfinity series events.
As a result, he is incredibly excited that the fans are finally getting what they have been asking for. He also emphasized that the track has facilities that have deserved to host a Cup Series race for a long time and he hopes to see an event that allows them to make the most of this opportunity.
The No. 9 Chevy driver finished the race in fourth place on Sunday, after executing a late move to pass Ross Chastain. He later admitted that although he was fast, he wasn’t fast enough to challenge Kyle Larson for the win. He also acknowledged that if he hadn’t lost so much time in the early part of the race, he would have had a chance to win.
The 2020 Cup champion has bounced back from his previous poor performance with a victory in Texas and has since been one of the most consistent drivers. He is currently in second place in the points standings, which gives him a chance to win the regular season championship as well.
