In the end, Hendrick Motorsports emerged victorious once again, with the 2021 Cup champion driving the No. 5 Chevy Camaro, while FRM secured a second-place finish.
The race featured a total of 38 drivers, including entries from Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series and the Supercars Series. Despite showcasing his skills on mixed circuits, Allmendinger only managed a sixth-place finish due to his tires not performing optimally towards the end of the race.
With 22 laps remaining, the experienced Chevy driver expressed his frustration over the team radio regarding Kyle Larson. Larson had made contact with Allmendinger several times during the race, leading to the latter’s anger as he believed these collisions had a negative impact on his tire performance.
The Kaulig driver reflected on his race experience, acknowledging the efforts of his team and crew chief in navigating the challenges. Despite not achieving a top-5 finish, Allmendinger expressed satisfaction with the results.
The 2024 season has not been particularly successful for AJ Allmendinger so far. He has yet to secure a victory in the Xfinity Series that would guarantee a spot in the playoffs. Additionally, he has struggled to contend for wins in the Cup series. However, Allmendinger intends to take his strong performance in Sonoma and use it as a catalyst for a positive moment in the future.
