Mercedes domina Grande Prêmio do Canadá apesar de perder para Max Verstappen.

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton showcased promising speed for Mercedes as the Silver Arrows try to break their winless streak in Formula 1.

The recent race was one of the most exciting events of the 2024 season. The whole weekend brought some major surprises, including the resurgence of Mercedes at the front of the grid. In the end, Max Verstappen once again stood on the top step of the podium. However, the Silver Arrows would not leave Montreal disheartened.

George Russell shocked the paddock by securing the first pole position of the season for Mercedes. The British driver clocked an identical lap time to Max Verstappen, but he set his lap time before the Dutchman. During the race, Russell couldn’t keep up with the performance of the current world champion and dropped to third place after a promising start.

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton had a more challenging race. The seven-time world champion even hinted that the race strategy may have hindered his chances. However, it would be fair to believe that Mercedes was the biggest beneficiary of the event, despite losing out to Max Verstappen.

Mercedes has been struggling throughout the ground effect era in Formula 1. The team has not won a race since Russell’s triumph at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix, and Lewis Hamilton went two seasons without a victory. However, the Canadian Grand Prix showed that the Brackley-based team is finally on the right path to return to winning ways.

George Russell showed incredible speed throughout the weekend, with Hamilton even topping the time sheets in practice sessions. Additionally, Russell successfully defended his position against Max Verstappen at the start and held onto the lead in the early laps.

At the end, Mercedes didn’t have the pace of Red Bull and McLaren, allowing Max Verstappen and his teammate to overtake Russell. However, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton engaged in an exciting battle in the final laps of the race, with both drivers finishing ahead of their teammates in fifth place.

It is important to note that Ferrari’s disastrous weekend played a role in Mercedes’ result. However, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton showed that the W15 car has the necessary speed in the right circumstances. As a result, the team will be looking to build on this weekend’s performance and potentially end their winless streak in the upcoming races.
