An F1 analyst discussed Red Bull’s alleged intention to offer Sergio Perez a two-year contract extension, despite his unconvincing performances. The analyst suggests that the team is looking to keep their three-time world champion, Max Verstappen, by keeping Perez on board.

Perez joined Red Bull at the beginning of the 2021 season and achieved five victories with the team. However, the 34-year-old driver has shown notable inconsistency since the previous season and has often failed to score points reliably.

Earlier this season, rumors surfaced that Max Verstappen could be considering leaving Red Bull due to internal conflicts within the team, despite having a contract until the end of 2028. An F1 commentator from SkySports, Bernie Collins, stated that Red Bull wants to maintain the successful partnership for the 2022 and 2023 seasons for the constructors’ championship.

Red Bull had a strong start to this year’s season, leading the constructors’ championship after eight races. However, Perez’s inconsistency in recent races allowed Ferrari to close the gap on the Austrian team. Ferrari currently leads the championship with just a 24-point advantage.

A Technical Consultant from Red Bull accused other teams on the grid of lacking innovation in their cars and upgrades. He claims that rivals have copied Red Bull’s upgrades. Although Red Bull dominated the season initially, their performance has declined in recent races.

Ferrari and McLaren have shown a significant improvement in their performance this year and are actively challenging the current world champions. Helmut Marko, representative of Red Bull, claims that both teams have reached the Red Bull standard in the third year of the current regulations, which were introduced in early 2022.

Red Bull has won five out of the eight races this season, all with Max Verstappen. However, McLaren and Ferrari have won a combined total of three races, indicating a drop in Red Bull’s performance. The next event in Canada will attract attention to Red Bull for several reasons.
