Jack Doohan, the reserve driver for the Alpine Formula 1 team, will replace Esteban Ocon during the first hour of free practice at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. Doohan has been the Alpine reserve driver since 2023 and has already taken part in free practice sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. According to current FIA regulations, each full-time racing driver must give up a free practice session to allow a rookie driver, who has competed in a maximum of two races, the chance to drive. This weekend, Doohan will have the opportunity to drive the Alpine A524 car for the first time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He is seen as a possible replacement for Ocon in 2025. Alpine team principal, Bruno Famin, has expressed confidence in Doohan’s abilities, stating that his work in the simulator has been impressive and his feedback will be valuable in Montreal. Doohan is excited about the opportunity to drive at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and gain more track time, as well as familiarize himself with the 2024 car early in the season. He is focused on doing his best for the team and making the most of the session for both drivers, while also taking the opportunity to test certain items and understand the new track surface.
