Honda apresenta concept de camião movido a células de hidrogénio

Honda presented a concept of a Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell truck at the ACT Expo – Advanced Clean Transportation Expo 2024, at the end of last month of May.

The new concept represents the beginning of a new demonstration project aimed at the future production of fuel cell products for the North American market.

Honda is seeking new commercial collaborations as the company expands its hydrogen business to achieve its global goal of zero environmental impact, including carbon neutrality for all products and business activities by 2050.

“Commercial vehicles, including Class 8 trucks, where fuel cells offer the best zero-emission substitute for existing diesel applications, are a key part of Honda’s broad hydrogen business strategy,” said Ryan Harty, assistant vice president of sustainability and business development at American Honda Motor Co. “Honda is actively seeking commercial collaborations and customers to help bring these hydrogen cell solutions to the market here in North America.”, concluded the same Honda executive.

The concept of Honda’s Class 8 truck is powered by three new fuel cell systems from the brand, now in mass production at Fuel Cell System Manufacturing, LLC (FCSM), a production unit of the joint venture with General Motors in Brownstown, Michigan.

Developed jointly by Honda and General Motors over the past decade, the fuel cell system improves performance and doubles durability, reducing costs by a third compared to the previous generation system.

Honda has identified four main areas for the initial use of its new fuel cell system: fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), fuel cell commercial vehicles, stationary power plants, and construction machinery.
