The accident didn’t completely ruin Kyle Larson’s race compared to Kyle Busch.

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Gateway had some thrilling moments for fans. While running out of fuel on the final lap was the highlight of the day, the clash between the former Cup Series champions also caught attention. The incident spoiled the race for the RCR driver.

Two-time Cup champion Kyle Busch found himself in a duel with Kyle Larson from HMS in the final laps of the second stage of the Enjoy Illinois 300. Larson’s No. 5 Chevy made contact with Busch’s No. 8 RCR Chevy while trying to pass, causing both cars to spin and hit the wall.

Busch’s car suffered significant damage and was forced to retire from the race. Larson, on the other hand, managed to recover and secure a tenth-place finish. In his post-accident interview with Fox, Busch sarcastically blamed Larson for the incident and acknowledged that his team cannot afford to have disappointing days like this considering the performance of their cars.

After the race, Larson spoke to the press and gave his version of the story about the incident. He blamed Busch for squeezing him, which led to the spin and eventual crash.

“Yeah, we were coming to the end of that stage and I was a little better than him. Tried to get to his inside and just barely touched his side. I don’t know, I think that upset him and he squeezed me. Honestly, I thought I had a flat tire when I turned because the car just turned around backwards, but I think he must have taken the air off me and [I] spun.”

Kyle Busch must be really frustrated with himself considering how the last few races have gone for him. He was slowly improving his team’s performance after a disappointing start. He will be hoping to bounce back from these setbacks soon.
