IndyCar dominated the streets of Detroit last weekend, providing plenty of thrills and excitement.

Early in the race, the first corner saw a crash when Will Power was forced into the barriers, resulting in a collision with some other drivers.

This incident set the tone for the rest of the race, although there were some uninterrupted racing laps towards the end of the event.

Once again, Scott Dixon showcased his fuel-saving mastery by completing the final 44 laps on a single tank of Shell fuel.

Only one other driver, Dixon’s teammate Marcus Armstrong, managed to cover the same distance. However, Armstrong ran out of fuel during the cool-down lap.

Dixon’s victory propels him to the top of the points standings and makes him the first driver to win multiple races in the 2024 IndyCar season.

Marcus Ericsson secured second place, marking his best result of the season. He was relieved to have a bit of luck after a particularly challenging May.

As for Armstrong, he achieved his first podium, climbing from 19th place to secure his best result in his relatively short IndyCar career.

One of the factors that contributed to Armstrong’s impressive climb in the standings was the high number of caution periods that interrupted the race.

Almost every driver got caught up in the chaos, with multiple accidents involving various drivers.

Josef Newgarden, Colton Herta, Romain Grosjean, Scott McLaughlin, and others were responsible for causing several caution periods, resulting in significant repair costs for their respective teams.

Most incidents occurred in braking zones, as drivers consistently miscalculated the ideal moment to enter the turns.

The race direction also applied a considerable number of penalties, with 12 separate penalties issued for aggressive driving and servicing in a closed pit.

In addition, two caution periods were caused by a brief rain shower that passed over the track around the halfway point of the race.

All drivers went to the pits to switch to rain tires, only to return a few laps later to switch back to their regular tires, as the rain quickly stopped.

Will Power, who was involved in the first lap accident, received four separate penalties for various infractions.

Despite the setbacks, the experienced driver managed to recover and finish in sixth place, two positions above his starting position.

Unfortunately, Power’s two Team Penske teammates faced their own adversities later in the race and were unable to recover in the same way.

McLaughlin fell a lap behind after slipping on the tires, while Newgarden damaged his suspension while trying to recover from some earlier collisions. They finished in 20th and 26th place, respectively.

With only a few days until the next race, the teams have little time to make the necessary repairs, leaving the paddock already exhausted with no time to rest.

The next race will be held at the historic Road America, a track that offers a completely different challenge compared to the tight and bumpy streets of Detroit.
