Former Formula 1 team leader rejects Williams’ hopes of attracting Adrian Newey as unrealistic.

Ex-líder de equipe da Fórmula 1 rejeita esperanças da Williams de atrair Adrian Newey como irrealistas.

Former Haas F1 team principal, Guenther Steiner, stated that he was quite optimistic about Williams trying to secure the services of aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey.

The aerodynamics expert recently announced his departure from Red Bull. The British engineer will no longer contribute to the efforts of the Milton Keynes-based team in Formula 1. Newey’s future is still uncertain, with Ferrari being the most likely option for the 65-year-old Brit. Rumors have surfaced that Williams could be a possible destination for the Red Bull’s technical chief. However, the former Haas F1 boss denied such speculations.

Under the guidance of their new leader, Williams is undergoing a rebuilding process. The Grove-based team has received support from Dorilton Capital, allowing them to reportedly match Audi’s offer for Carlos Sainz. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Williams boss is eager to bring Adrian Newey back to the iconic British team.

It was pointed out that James Vowles himself stated that Williams was in discussions with Newey. The former Haas boss mentioned that the media picked up on these comments, as it is the duty of journalists. However, Steiner believes it may have been wishful thinking for Vowles’ team to hire Newey.

James Vowles and Williams have big aspirations to return to the front of the grid. The Grove-based team undoubtedly seeks to attract talented individuals, as they heavily invest in modern infrastructure. Guenther Steiner stated that the British team may be using Newey’s name as a way to demonstrate the seriousness of their new investors. Having Adrian Newey on board would undoubtedly attract more qualified personnel from across the grid.

Steiner was not sure if Adrian Newey was genuinely interested in joining the team based in Grove. Newey won his first Formula 1 championships with Williams over three decades ago. Guenther Steiner stated that the aerodynamic genius has many options and can choose which team he truly wants to work with.

Surely, fans would be surprised if Adrian Newey turned down the lucrative offer from Ferrari to join Williams. However, the 65-year-old Briton would have the opportunity to rebuild his former team in a similar way to how he established the technical department at Red Bull two decades ago. Nevertheless, Newey’s future remains one of the most significant topics in the Formula 1 community.
