Bagnaia emerge vitorioso na Sprint de Mugello após acidente caro de Martin.

Pecco Bagnaia, the current MotoGP champion, emerged victorious in the sprint race at Mugello, while points leader Jorge Martin suffered a crash. Bagnaia’s win, his first in a sprint race since last year’s Austria event, came after several missed opportunities. Last weekend, he crashed while leading on the final lap. However, this time he held firm against late pressure from Marc Marquez and managed to reduce the gap to Martin by 12 points.

Martin started the race in pole position, but was overtaken not only by Bagnaia, but also by his own teammate Enea Bastianini on the first lap. Although Martin managed to regain the lead, a mistake by Bastianini allowed him to attack and ultimately led to a collision between the two. The incident was investigated, but no further action was taken.

Unfortunately for Martin, this incident did little to ease his disappointment. Despite initially staying close enough to Bagnaia to attack, he soon found himself overtaken by Marquez. With rookie Pedro Acosta also threatening to steal third place, Martin crashed on the eighth lap.

Marquez, who overtook Martin to secure second place, finished 1.5 seconds behind Bagnaia. In the championship standings, Bagnaia is now trailing Martin by 27 points, with Marquez a further five points behind.

However, Bagnaia will start the next race in fifth position due to a penalty for obstruction during Friday’s practice sessions. Behind him, Acosta celebrated his new contract with the factory KTM by finishing third, while Franco Morbidelli achieved his best result with Pramac Ducati in fourth place. Maverick Vinales completed the top five for Aprilia.

Yamaha and Honda had a disappointing race, despite showing promise earlier in the weekend. Alex Rins was the highest-placed Yamaha rider, finishing in 13th position, while Fabio Quartararo was taken out of the race early due to a collision with Miguel Oliveira. KTM’s guest rider, Pol Espargaro, finished 14th in his return to MotoGP action, and Joan Mir retired from the race with a technical issue.
