Kimi Antonelli vence George Russell em teste secreto, garante vaga na Mercedes para 2025.

In the world of sensationalist journalism, it was almost certain that the talented teenager born in Bologna, Kimi Antonelli, would shine on the Formula One track in 2025 alongside the current world champion, Max Verstappen.

According to reports from Italy, George Russell was left behind by Antonelli during a private test. This impressive display solidified Antonelli’s position as Lewis Hamilton’s successor at Mercedes, as the team’s hopes of hiring Verstappen diminished.

Since Hamilton’s move to Ferrari was confirmed in early February, Antonelli has been considered a strong contender for a spot at Mercedes. Now, it seems that this possibility has become even more certain, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.

The crucial moment occurred during Antonelli’s private test at Silverstone. Although it was already known that the Italian performed admirably against Mick Schumacher, the test and reserve driver, the latest report suggests that Russell was also present on the track.

According to Corriere, Antonelli’s lap times were faster than Russell’s during long-run race simulations and were close in qualifying sessions. Despite his modest 48 points in his first 10 races in Formula Two with PREMA Racing, this impressive performance secured his place on the track for the 2025 season.

Although some may question Antonelli’s preparation for Formula One, it is worth noting that he underwent an extensive and rigorous private testing program with Mercedes. Key team members have spoken highly of Antonelli since the test.

James Allison, technical director of Mercedes, praised the talent of Antonelli, describing him as a young driver who is enthusiastic and incredibly fast and consistent in his pace. Despite his limited experience in an F1 car, Antonelli quickly adapted and provided valuable feedback to the engineers, highlighting both the strengths and weaknesses of the current generation of cars.

Allison continued expressing his optimism, stating that Antonelli appears to be a very promising young driver. This positive assessment from the technical director of Mercedes speaks volumes about the team’s excitement for Antonelli’s future in Formula One.
