Jorge Martin will start in first place for the Sprint race and Sunday’s race at the Italian Grand Prix, closely followed by the factory Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia and the Aprilia of Maverick Vinales. The Pramac Ducati rider set a new record for the fastest lap time of 1.44.504s on his first attempt, which could not be surpassed. Martin and Bagnaia were separated by just 0.043s, while Vinales impressed for Aprilia. Marc Marquez was a quarter of a second faster than Martin’s lap time on his second attempt, but a crash while pushing the limits forced him to settle for fourth place. Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli, both riding for Ducati, will join the eight-time champion on the second row, with Morbidelli having to qualify through the first round. Pedro Acosta, the leading KTM rider, qualified just over half a second behind the Ducatis and Vinales. Alex Marquez secured eighth place with his year-old Gresini bike, followed by Aleix Espargaro from Aprilia and Yamaha’s leading rider Alex Rins completing the top 10. The Trackhouse duo, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez, will start in 11th and 12th place, respectively, with Fernandez qualifying through the first round. KTM’s Brad Binder failed to advance to the second round and will start in 13th place, while VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio was just 0.013s slower. Fabio Quartararo placed his Yamaha bike in 15th position, showing promising signs that Yamaha can compete with the top manufacturers. Marco Bezzecchi was the last Ducati rider in 16th place, followed by Joan Mir, who achieved his best qualifying position this season in 17th place with his Repsol Honda. Johann Zarco improved his position to 18th place with his LCR Honda, followed by a trio of KTM riders led by Jack Miller. Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaro closely followed Miller on their KTM bikes, while Lorenzo Savadori secured the third position on the last row. Despite being the top Honda rider in practice, Takaaki Nakagami had a disappointing performance, and Luca Marini struggled to find pace with his Repsol-sponsored Honda, finishing half a second behind Nakagami in last place.
