F1 to discuss more unique car designs in 2025 with teams.

The FIA is planning to initiate discussions with Formula 1 teams about the possibility of introducing more distinct liveries in 2025 in response to the increasing prevalence of cars with similar appearances. The current generation of cars has become increasingly burdened with weight, resulting in more exposed carbon on the 2024 models as teams seek marginal gains over their competitors. As a result, the design schemes of various teams have become indistinguishable on television, especially during night races such as the Bahrain Grand Prix, which opens the season. Notable examples of this issue include the Aston Martin AMR24 and the Mercedes W15, as well as the Williams FW46 and the RB VCARB01. To address this problem, the FIA intends to engage in discussions and explore potential solutions, with the matter scheduled to be raised during the next Formula 1 Commission meeting. Nikolas Tombazis, FIA’s Director of Single-Seaters, acknowledged the complexity of the issue, attributing it to the excessive use of exposed carbon and similar color schemes. He emphasized the importance of finding a solution through collaboration with teams, rather than imposing unpopular regulations. The goal is to establish a process in which teams communicate with each other to ensure their liveries are distinguishable, without resorting to regulatory measures. The FIA seeks to find a balance between maintaining the visual appeal of the cars and ensuring their uniqueness.
