Zhou revela novas informações sobre negociações para acordo de F1 em 2025.

Zhou Guanue, from Sauber, revealed that his team is in negotiations with several teams in search of an opportunity in Formula 1 in 2025, in an attempt to extend their stay in the category.

Zhou and his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, have contracts expiring this season, and at least one of them will leave the team, as Sauber has confirmed the signing of Nico Hulkenberg.

The Hinwil-based team has expressed that Carlos Sainz is their main target to join the German driver, as they prepare to become an official Audi team in 2026.

Bottas is speculated as a possible return to Williams, but Zhou stated that he is also in discussions with several teams that have vacancies available for the next season.

Zhou’s substantial financial support could make him a viable contender for Hulkenberg’s seat at Haas, while he could also be considered by Alpine or Williams as a potential option.

“We are closely monitoring all these different possibilities,” Zhou stated in Monaco. “Certainly, staying here is still one of the options, but I am also evaluating what would be best for my future.

“It is crucial to start early due to the driver market. I leave this decision to Graeme [Lowdon], of course. But I am focused on my performance here. However, it is evident that we have already started conversations with several teams to determine who aligns with my best interests and who can offer the future or opportunities that I aspire to have in the coming years. Nothing is set in stone at the moment; we are just waiting to see what looks most promising on paper.”

Zhou expressed his desire to expedite the process of determining his future plans to avoid relying solely on one team, as he did in previous seasons.

“This year, I don’t want to be the individual waiting for the final confirmation of a seat, as circumstances have changed,” Zhou stated.

“My goal this year is to be proactive in making that decision and resolving things faster than others.

“Considering the available options this year, I am still evaluating to determine the best strategy. Waiting too long would undoubtedly result in being too late.”

Zhou also acknowledged the possibility of securing an extension with Sauber/Audi, especially with the news that Sainz is discussing a possible move to Williams.

“Yes, I have had conversations with Andreas [Seidl, CEO of Sauber] and people associated with the team, as well as those affiliated with Audi.

“The main factor is that I believe they will not make a decision in the near future, as they are exploring other options.

“My teammate and I are still among those options. It is unlikely that things will progress quickly in the coming weeks, that is for sure.

“But we are discussing and there is still some interest on their part. So, never say never. Let’s see.”

Although Zhou has faced challenges on the track in 2024, with eight consecutive eliminations in Q1 hindering Sauber’s chances of scoring points, he denies that the pressure of his uncertain future is to blame. However, he acknowledges the need for improvements.

“I would say I am very calm about the situation,” he stated. “I don’t feel an overwhelming amount of pressure, nor do I believe this will be my last year.

“For me, it is clear that I need to focus on performing on the track. Qualifying has been a bit frustrating this season, so I intend to correct that.

“As for the rest, I have several options to consider. I do not feel restricted to just one team.

“There are some instances where there is some interest. So, it’s about finding the right fit.”

“These decisions will not be made in the short term; they require more time than just the present moment.”
