The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports have revealed new dates for the inaugural Kazakhstan Grand Prix on Wednesday, with the race scheduled to take place at the end of September.
The first Kazakhstan GP was initially planned for 2023, but the track was not ready due to homologation works.
The 2024 edition was postponed due to extensive floods in the region, resulting in a national emergency. Consequently, the race had to be rescheduled from its original dates of June 14-16.
The Sokol International Circuit will host MotoGP races for the first time from September 20-22, marking the beginning of the Asian leg of the 2024 MotoGP calendar.
These dates were initially reserved for the Indian Grand Prix. However, as that race was postponed to 2025 as the season opener, it opened up a vacant weekend for Kazakhstan to fill.
The Kazakh race weekend marks the start of races outside of Europe in Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia, which will be followed by the season finale in Europe, in Valencia.
Indonesia will host its MotoGP 2024 season stage from September 27-29, while Japan will conclude the trio of Grand Prix races from October 4-6.
According to reports, the Sokhol circuit is currently completed, with the remaining infrastructure requiring attention before its debut in September. Issues such as road access, timing, and internet connection are being addressed to ensure that Kazakhstan can successfully deliver a MotoGP weekend.
