Leclerc revela momento crucial que resultou na vitória no Grande Prêmio de Mônaco.

In tabloid format, Charles Leclerc, winner of the Monaco Grand Prix, revealed that overcoming his difficulties in qualifying at the beginning of the 2024 Formula 1 season was the moment that triggered his victory. Leclerc has been known for his exceptional performance on low fuel since joining Ferrari in 2019, but he struggled to maintain that pace early this season. Despite showing promising speed in practice in Australia, Leclerc made mistakes when it mattered most, allowing his teammate Carlos Sainz to claim a historic win for Ferrari. Similar problems arose for Leclerc in Suzuka, where low fuel conditions hampered his race and cost him third place to Sainz. However, Leclerc was determined to overcome his qualifying issues and since the race in China, he has consistently outperformed his teammate, securing three podiums. Given the limited overtaking opportunities in Monaco, Leclerc’s third pole position on his home streets was crucial, and he took advantage to achieve an exciting victory. Reflecting on his success, Leclerc stated: “I believe the turning point of the season happened a few races ago. We didn’t have the car to win in recent races, but we had it here, and I knew I had to seize the opportunity. And I did. We did a really great job. I had difficulties in qualifying at the beginning of the season, but I worked to improve my pace and since then, I am extremely pleased with our performance. I hope this leads us to many more victories.”

However, Leclerc warned that Ferrari should not get overly excited about the result, as the distinct characteristics of the Monte Carlo track represent a deviation from the norm.

“We must be cautious,” he advised. “Clearly, Monaco has a very unique track layout. And I believe we had an exceptionally competitive car this weekend.

“However, this does not guarantee that our performance will be maintained throughout the rest of the year.

“Nevertheless, reflecting on the early races of the season, I believe we have done an exceptional job in optimizing our performance. We will continue to build on this momentum.”

Leclerc has been the only driver to consistently finish in the top four in all eight races this season, and his recent victory, the first since July 2022, has put him in contention for the championship title.

Red Bull’s struggles to unlock their speed in Monaco resulted in Max Verstappen finishing sixth, narrowing the gap between him and Leclerc to 31 points. Ferrari, on the other hand, is only 24 points behind in the standings.

When informed about the current championship situation, Leclerc responded: “Oh, it’s 31? Oh, someone had told me it was 23. So I was quite excited. 31 is still acceptable. I mean, I’ll accept it anyway.

“But it’s a bit more than I had been led to believe. So, yeah, it’s all good. However, I’m not currently obsessed with the championship. It’s still early in the season.

“I believe we still need to assess the effectiveness of the upgrades we introduced in Imola and determine their impact.

“Our focus remains on maximizing our performance in each race weekend. Gradually, we hope to progress and achieve our goals.”
