ALONSO GARANTE VITÓRIA EMOCIONANTE NA MOTO3 CATALÃ.

David Alonso, a member of the CF Moto Aspar team, displayed unwavering determination at the Catalunya Moto3 Grand Prix to secure a remarkable victory and reclaim his position at the top of the championship. The Colombian rider held his ground and emerged victorious, leaving pole position Iván Ortolá and Collin Veijer from Husqvarna behind. Meanwhile, Daniel Holgado, Alonso’s main rival in the championship, could only manage to finish in sixth place.

Ortolá managed to maintain the lead of the race, despite a daring move by David Muñoz to prevent him from being overtaken. However, Muñoz was penalized with a long lap penalty, causing him to return to the race in 12th place. Unfortunately for Muñoz, he fell further in the rankings and ended up in 15th place.

Although Ortolá led the race, he couldn’t extend his advantage beyond half a second due to a group of riders who were running at a similar pace. The group, comprised of Ortolá, Alonso, Holgado, Veijer, Luca Lunetta, and Jose Antonio Rueda, engaged in aggressive battles with each other, resulting in frequent changes in the lead during the early stages of the race.

Holgado, who entered the race as the championship leader, took the lead for a few laps, skillfully using late braking techniques to prevent others from overtaking him. However, his time at the front was short-lived, as he made a slight mistake, dropping to sixth place.

Joel Kelso, an Australian rider and Muñoz’s teammate, retired from the race at Turn 3, marking his first retirement of the 2024 season. Taiyo Furusato also faced misfortune, receiving a double long lap penalty for unnecessary speed reduction and subsequently crashing out of the race.

On the 8th lap, Ortolá regained the lead, pushing Holgado back to sixth place due to a small mistake. This highlighted the fierce competition among several riders. Muñoz managed to establish consistent lap times and fought his way back to the front group, reaching sixth place with 10 laps remaining, putting him in contention for the win once again.

Tatsuki Suzuki continued to struggle, repeatedly exceeding track limits, resulting in a long lap penalty for himself. Alonso and Ortolá managed to break away from the rest of the pack, with both riders maintaining a 0.2-second advantage. Veijer remained ready to seize any opportunity that arose.

With three laps to go, Alonso broke the lap record, setting a time of 1.47.030s in an attempt to secure his victory. The main group of riders was reduced to Alonso, Ortolá, and Veijer in the final two laps. However, Rueda surpassed Alonso’s lap time, recording 1.46.748s and taking his bike into uncharted territory.

Alonso efficiently preserved his tires and set his fastest lap of the race on the final lap, sealing his victory. Ortolá held onto his pole position, finishing in second place, while Rueda executed a pass on the final lap to secure third place. Veijer claimed a respectable fourth place, with Muñoz recovering well from his long lap penalty to secure fifth place.

Holgado’s tires struggled in the final stages of the race, causing him to fall 3.3 seconds behind his championship rival. Lunetta and teammate Jacob Roulstone were too far back to launch a late attack.

Filippo Farioli and Adrian Fernandez had a close finish, with Farioli securing ninth place. Ryussei Yamanka, Angel Piqueras, Stefano Nepa, and Joel Esteban fiercely battled in the final corner, with only 0.102 seconds separating them as they fought for as many points as possible. Suzuki claimed the final point, but was disappointed to finish twelve seconds behind the race leader.

With this victory, Alonso now leads the Moto3 standings with 118 points, maintaining a 14-point advantage over Holgado in second place.
