In the second race in Shanghai, Antonio Felix da Costa secured his second victory of the Formula E season, leaving behind Jake Hughes of McLaren, who achieved his first podium with a dominant performance. This race was faster and less exciting compared to the previous one. Da Costa was a constant threat throughout the race and once he took the lead shortly after the halfway point, he never relinquished it. His future at Porsche beyond this season is uncertain, as the team has been critical of his qualifying performances. However, in this race, da Costa started in third and quickly moved up to second place, overtaking Hughes. In the early stages, there was a fierce battle for the lead involving Hughes, Stoffel Vandoorne of DS Penske, and Norman Nato of Andretti. Da Costa effectively managed his energy levels and took the lead on lap 16, creating a gap that secured his victory. Hughes managed to overtake Nato in the final laps and secure second place. This victory brought some consolation to Porsche, as their championship contender, Pascal Wehrlein, finished in 20th place without scoring points. Wehrlein struggled to move up from 13th on the grid and was eventually taken out of contention after a collision with McLaren’s Sam Bird. Cassidy finished in fourth place, extending his lead in the drivers’ standings to 25 points. There were no conflicts between Cassidy and his Jaguar teammate, Mitch Evans, unlike the previous day. Hughes celebrated his first Formula E podium, while Bird retired from the race after colliding with Nyck de Vries’ Mahindra. Vandoorne, who initially had a chance to win, finished in sixth place, just ahead of his teammate Jean-Eric Vergne, who was unhappy with Vandoorne’s race tactics. Max Guenther, Robin Frijns, and Oliver Rowland completed the points-scoring positions.
