Three top pilots involved in bizarre accident in MotoGP race in Barcelona

Três pilotos de ponta envolvidos em acidente bizarro na corrida de MotoGP em Barcelona

Local hero Aleix Espargaro emerged as the winner in an exciting MotoGP race in Barcelona, with three different riders – including reigning champion Pecco Bagnaia – suffering crashes while leading the race.

Unfortunately, Bagnaia’s crash occurred at Turn 5 on the final lap, just when it seemed like he had secured the victory.

Before that, both Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse Aprilia and Brad Binder of KTM found themselves in promising positions to win, only to suffer crashes of their own.

Fernandez, who had never finished above fifth place in a MotoGP race, started in third and managed to fend off Binder’s challenge for the position on the first lap at Turn 2. Meanwhile, Aleix Espargaro, who started on pole position, was swallowed up by the chasing pack.

Instead of Espargaro, Bagnaia’s factory Ducati took the lead, but Acosta managed to pass him at the first corner of the second lap, relinquishing the position at Turn 5 and repeating the move on the following lap.

However, Fernandez and Binder also managed to pass Bagnaia, and Fernandez even made a bold move on Acosta at Turn 5 to take the lead.

Just when Fernandez seemed to be pulling away with a comfortable lead of almost a second, he made a serious mistake and crashed at Turn 10.

Shortly after Fernandez’s crash, Binder passed Acosta at Turn 1 and began to open up a gap, while Acosta and Bagnaia battled for position.

Unfortunately, Binder also crashed suddenly at Turn 5, paving the way for Bagnaia to secure his first MotoGP race victory since August last year in Austria.

However, it was not meant to be for Bagnaia. Espargaro managed to pass Acosta and closed in on Bagnaia, ultimately inheriting the victory on the final lap.

Marc Marquez, who started in 14th place, made an impressive recovery to finish second, overtaking Acosta on the final lap. Acosta, the rookie who celebrated his 20th birthday on race day, finished in third place.

Despite a collision with Jack Miller at the first corner that caused damage to the front wing of his Ducati Gresini, Marquez put on a remarkable performance.

Jorge Martin had a decent race and salvaged a valuable fourth place, extending his championship lead over Marquez to 37 points.

Enea Bastianini crossed the finish line in fifth place, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth and Miller in seventh for KTM.

Maverick Vinales, who has been struggling in the last few races, managed to secure eighth place, closely following Miller. Marco Bezzecchi completed the top nine, earning points for the VR46 Ducati.

In addition to the three leaders who crashed, Fernandez’s teammate Miguel Oliveira and Johann Zarco from LCR Honda also suffered falls. Zarco was involved in a collision with Alex Marquez from Ducati Gresini, who seemed to have been pushed to the back of the pack on the first lap.
