Chase Elliott is not happy with how NASCAR handled the fine imposed on Stenhouse Jr.
The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star race at North Wilkesboro will not be remembered for the historic victory after leading 199 of the 200 laps. Instead, it will be infamous for the clash between Chase Elliott and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., where the latter punched the veteran in the face during a discussion about an accident on the second lap.
Despite extensively using footage of the clash for promotion, NASCAR did not take the incident lightly. They imposed a substantial fine of $75,000 on the driver of the No. 47 Chevrolet. However, not everyone, including the 2020 Cup champion, Chase Elliott, agrees with the heavy fine considering how NASCAR used the clash for promotional purposes.
The six-time Most Popular Driver award winner is not the only driver to express this opinion. Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez also shared similar comments about the penalty. Former RCR driver Austin Dillon even referred to NASCAR’s decision as a double standard. Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon also believed the penalty was excessive.
The Coca Cola 600 weekend is of great importance to the HMS team, as Chase Elliott is participating in “The Double” by racing in the Indy 500 for Arrow McLaren. As a teammate and close friend, Chase Elliott is closely following the events in Indy and the performance of his teammate.
He is eager for his champion teammate’s pursuit of victories. At the same time, he also has a dual responsibility, as he will be racing in the Xfinity Series race in Charlotte. He hopes to bring pride to the team in that race as well.
