Robin Frijns and Nick Cassidy, the current championship leader, finished ninth and tenth, respectively.

Jean-Eric Vergne Flies to Pole Position in Shanghai ⚡️????????

Jean-Eric Vergne, driving for DS Penske, dominated the qualifying session at the Shanghai International Circuit, securing his second pole position of the season. With an impressive lap time of 1:13.322, Vergne left his competitors behind. Oliver Rowland, from Nissan, fought bravely, finishing just 0.040 seconds behind Vergne to secure second place on the grid.

Qualifying Recap: Intense Battles and Surprising Results

The qualifying session was full of excitement and unexpected results. In Group A, the 11 cars were separated by only two tenths of a second. However, two standout drivers, Max Günther and Nick Cassidy, failed to advance to the next stage. Stoffel Vandoorne set the fastest time in this group, closely followed by Rowland, Nato, and Evans.

In Group B, Jake Dennis, who had secured the pole position in Berlin, failed to advance to the next stage. Jake Hughes stood out as the fastest driver in this group, setting a time of 1:14.140. Vergne also impressed, securing a spot in the semifinals alongside da Costa and Wehrlein.

Intense Duels Determine the Finalists

The quarterfinal duels were filled with thrilling moments. Norman Nato and Oliver Rowland fought intensely, with Rowland coming out on top by just 0.068 seconds. Despite Nato’s impressive lap time of 1:13.000, Rowland managed to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Mitch Evans faced Stoffel Vandoorne, and a mistake by Vandoorne in the first sector cost him valuable time and a place in the next stage. Evans took advantage of this opportunity, finishing three tenths of a second faster.

The duel between Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa was decided by an exceptional start from Vergne in the first sector. Although da Costa gained time in the final sector, it was not enough to save him from elimination, as Vergne secured the victory by just 0.006 seconds.

Jake Hughes showed an impressive one-lap pace against Pascal Wehrlein, but Wehrlein’s Porsche proved to be too strong for the British driver. Wehrlein set the fastest time of the duels, finishing with a time of 1:13.449.

Semifinals and the Battle for Pole Position

In the semifinals, Oliver Rowland secured his place in the final by just 0.001 seconds, narrowly beating Mitch Evans. Rowland’s performance in the final sector was decisive.

Jean-Eric Vergne faced Pascal Wehrlein, with Vergne emerging victorious with a time of 1:13.471. A small mistake by Wehrlein in the final sector cost him precious time, allowing Vergne to secure the pole position.

Jean-Eric Vergne Secures Pole Position in Exciting Final

In the final showdown, Jean-Eric Vergne delivered an impressive performance, setting the fastest time of the entire qualifying session with a time of 1:13.322. Oliver Rowland kept the pressure throughout the session, but was less than 0.040 seconds away.
