Bearman responds to Magnussen’s comments during the Miami Grand Prix. Oliver Bearman addressed Kevin Magnussen’s recent comments, asserting his autonomy and readiness for a possible seat in Formula 1 with Haas. The 19-year-old has been speculated as a potential replacement for Nico Hulkenberg at the end of the season. If he joins Haas, he will be teammates with Magnussen, who was asked if he would mentor the young driver. Magnussen responded directly, stating: “I’m not here to take care of young drivers. I do that at home. So, I hope the individual we have in the car is competent, professional, and consistent, just like Nico has been. We’ll see if I’ll be in the other car.” Bearman, who had an impressive Formula 1 debut for Ferrari when he replaced the ill Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia, responded to Magnussen’s comments during the Miami Grand Prix. “I don’t believe he would be responsible for my well-being. I am capable of taking care of myself,” Bearman said via GPblog. He acknowledged that an exceptional performance does not guarantee a seat at Haas. “It’s true that I don’t automatically deserve the Haas seat that seems to be available just because I had a good race in Formula 1,” he continued. “I must consistently demonstrate that I deserve it. I must work for it. This involves delivering strong performances in Formula 2, proving that I can compete at the front and challenge for the championship. And, of course, my experiences in FP1 with Haas. I hope to show my skills and why I deserve this seat.” Bearman, who is currently a reserve driver, may have another opportunity in Formula 1 sooner than expected, as Magnussen is just two penalty points away from a race suspension. Bearman expressed his readiness for any potential call-up. “I will be in Canada as Ferrari’s reserve, but I am also Haas’ reserve when I am Ferrari’s reserve, so I am definitely prepared,” he said. “I showed in Saudi Arabia that I am ready, so if I get the call, I will be happy to step in. Of course, it’s never the ideal way to participate in a race if something like that happens, but if it does, then I will gladly fulfill it.” Bearman, a former Formula 4 champion, currently ranks 20th in the Formula 2 standings after four race weekends, one of which he missed to become Ferrari’s youngest driver.
